Trekking to the beautiful southern panorama of Nanga Parbat through the scenic Rupal Valley and with the superb views of the Rupal Face of Nanga Parbat. Nanga Parbat also called the “Naked Mountain” is so named because some of its slopes are so steep that they are bereft of vegetation and snow.
According to the locals, Nanga Parbat is also called Diamir which means abode of fairies. The locals believed that the Queen of fairies lives there in a castle made of solid crystal-clear ice, which is guarded by gigantic snow serpents and frogs. The South Face of Nanga Parbat known as Rupal Face is (5000m) high, while the North or Raikot Face plunging over (7000m) from the summit to the Indus forms one of the world’s deepest gorge. This trek takes us to the Southside of Nanga Parbat which is known as Rupal Face.
Nanga Parbat is the second highest in Pakistan and 9th highest peak in the world stands as an isolated mass of snow and ice as a westernmost pillar of the Himalayan mountain range around which the Indus river skirts into the plains of Pakistan. Nanga Parbat is not a single peak but consists of other peaks 20km long series of ridges culminating in an ice crest of 8,126 meters. It has three faces known as Raikot Face, Diamer face, and Raikot faces.
Nanga Parbat Rupal face trek taking you through lush green potato fields of Rupal valley to the base camp within 5-6 hours trek where one can see the massive peak of Nanga Parbat from a close distance. On this trek, we offer some options whether to return from base camp or carry on to Mazino Pass 5,400 m the highest point of Nanga Parbat Rupal face trek which is the most challenging part of this trek but offers truly stupendous sights of this Himalayan giant.
Nanga Parbat’s awesome Rupal face rises 4572m from the floor of the Rupal Gah, creating the greatest vertical rise from base camp to the summit of any peak. The easy trails and two short non-technical glacier crossings bring you directly beneath it for breathtaking close-up views. The Rupal face is although popular but is less frequently visited than Fairy Meadow.

Today after breakfast our walk starts from Tarishing (2911m) climbing gradually to the Tarishing Glacier lateral moraine, near the north edge, and crossing the glacier on a trail, continuing up to the gentle valley through Rupal village.
Rising gradually through Rupal valleys lush fields, the trail follows the valley’s north side up a narrow green valley, through groves of willow, poplar, and juniper then you pass a small lake and round a corner of the Bazhin camp, flat, green meadows between the lateral moraine of the Bazhin Glacier and the mountain. Ahead towers the solid ice wall of the east face of NANGA PARBAT. This is a perfect campsite with clear spring water, a wood full of birds this spot is called HERRLIGKOFFER Base Camp (3550m), a beautiful, although much-used meadows along the Bazhin Glacier’s east margin. The campsite is named after Dr. Karl M HERRLIGKOFFER the leader of eight German expeditions to NANGA PARBAT, including the first successful expedition in 1953.

From the top of the lateral moraine on the western side, you look down on a huge grassy field known as LATBOH (3530m). LATBOH is also known as TUPP Meadows because it is like a TUPP which must once have been the bed of a lake. Herds of horses, sheep, and goats graze in the center. The summer villagers churn butter in goatskins and spin sheep wool while they sit and chat, offering bread and buttermilk to visitors. Overnight camping at Latobah.
After breakfast further, two hour takes you around the end of a second moraine, with a lake on the top (Basically this Lake is less frequently visited and has no name and it exists at the foot of NANGA PARBAT so that is why we gave it a name NANGA PARBAT Lake to another broad field, LATBOI (meaning stony place) also called second Base Camp, with a summer settlement on one side, from here the path climbs gently over some moraine then follows the north bank of the river through the woods to SHAIGIRI (meaning a white stone in Shina) 30 minutes away. The incidence of personal violent crime is certainly almost none than in anywhere in the world despite sensational headlines and occasional saber rattling. The Karakorum region is known for centuries of peaceful coexistence.
we have continued to operate trips in the region each year and we are confident that these regions remains one of the most beautiful, compelling and welcoming places on earth.
The major concentrations of troubles are in the western parts of Pakistan and 100s of miles to the Islamabad. Their major concentrations are in areas which have had little or no tourism (investment, hard currency, etc) which is one of the reasons that their message has played well in these very poor districts. By comparison, the K2 Region is a very well and worldly part of Pakistan.
That said, whenever you travel in Pakistan (or anywhere in the world for that matter), you should definitely use personal caution. We avoid any known dangerous situations. We monitor political situations posted by the government Office and ground reports from our staff and network of contacts. As when traveling in any region, make sure to keep an eye on your possessions and take certain common-sense measures to prevent theft or dangerous situations.
The first rule of trekking K2 Base Camp is to step to the wall side when you meet a mule, since otherwise you can be knocked off the edge.
The main danger for most people doing the straight-in, straight-out route is altitude sickness(AKA Acute Mountain Sickness or AMS). For most people, this can be avoided by sleeping no more than 300 metres higher than you did the night before and taking an acclimatisation day every 1000 metres. Serious AMS is more common in folk doing group tours than in independent trekkers.
Other common injuries are twisted ankles and sprains. Rock falls, moraine and glacier crossings add significant risk to longer treks involving crossing high passes such as the Gondogoro-La. As always, it’s unwise to trek solo in case you fall and can’t extricate yourself: Do note, that it is illegal to trek solo.
There is no specific age of USD bills, however, we recommend the guests to carry new crisp bills when traveling. All denominations are acceptable, however, it is easier if you have smaller denominations of 5’s, 10’s and 20’s.
Pakistani tap water is not safe to drink. Bring water purifying tablets or a water purifying stickto save money and the environment. Note that at higher elevations during the coldest times of year the water will freeze, so you’ll need to use boiled water.Buy a decent thermos flask or plastic water container, so that you can top up with hot, boiled water at the beginning of the day – starting with hot water will stop it freezing
